Contributor Information

Your financial contribution to Allegheny General Hospital will allow us to continue our tradition of excellence in patient care and research.  The medical staff, administration and employees are working hard to establish medical advancements, wellness outreach programs and research initiatives that improve the health of our patients and impact the overall health of our community.

There are a variety of ways that you can support the mission of Allegheny General Hospital. Through the Annual Fund, you can routinely donate gifts that support the Hospital’s Highest Priority, a specific clinical program or research needs.  In addition, there are a variety of special gifts that you can create to make a significant impact on the services provided at AGH. The Office of Development staff can assist you in finding the charitable venue that best meets your philanthropic needs.  No matter how you make your gift, you will receive a written acknowledgment and tax receipt in the mail. Contributions are tax deductible as provided by law.

Types of Gifts

Gifts in support of the Hospital’s Highest Priority

A simple and meaningful way to support the mission of AGH is through yearly donations to the Annual Fund designated to support the hospital’s highest priority.  Your gift will aid funding needs such as expanded patient services, facility improvements, community service, public health education and professional education.  In return, donors to the AGH Annual Fund will receive regular issues of Columns, a quarterly AGH publication to inform, educate and inspire our financial supporters.  Click here to view the latest edition. 

Gifts to Specific Clinical Program

AGH specializes in more than 120 medical specialties and many contributors choose to direct their Annual Fund gift in support of a specific clinical area.   To do so , simply select their area of interest on the Donor Contribution Form and the development office will direct the contribution to the appropriate department of the hospital.  For more information on designating a gift to a clinical area, please call the Office of Development at 412-359-6895 or email AGHgiving@wpahs.org. 

Gifts in Support of Research

The Allegheny Singer Research Institute (ASRI) is the primary research entity at Allegheny General Hospital.  Utilizing the Institute’s laboratories and research support staff, AGH physicians lead and participate in clinical investigations that promote  advances in medical treatment and patient care.  The institute represents AGH’s long standing commitment to research and discovery of new and innovative ways to treat and heal the sick.  Donors can restrict Annual Fund contributions to support research by selecting the ASRI designation on the Donor Contribution Form.

Special Gifts  

Special gifts are defined as contributions that have a significant financial impact on the hospital and its programs.  Often these gifts either provide special recognition to a donor or loved one as part of a major gift agreement they have negotiated through the Fund Development Office.  Although some major gifts are made in one payment, often they are given through multiple year pledge agreement providing donors with added flexibility in reaching their funding goal.

Donors interested in arranging for a special gift such as creating an endowed research fund, funding the purchase of clinical equipment, or funding a facility construction/renovation project, should contact the Office of Development for more details.

Honor/Memorial Gifts

An honor or memorial gift is a thoughtful way to recognize the skilled care provided by an outstanding physician or employee, or memorialize a friend or loved one.  The Office of Development will notify the honoree or designated family member when a honor/memorial gift is made.

Matching Gifts

Many companies match charitable donations made by employees or employees’ spouses. This additional support can double or even triple the value of your gift. Please check with your human resources department to see if your company has a gift-matching program and ask for a matching gift form.

Payment Options

There are several ways to provide your support to Allegheny General Hospital.  Whether giving an outright contribution or making payments on a pledge that you have made with the hospital (see pledge section of the Donor Contribution Form), contributors are invited to utilize any of the following payment methods.

Personal Check

The most common method of contribution to Allegheny General Hospital is through personal or business checks made payable to Allegheny General Hospital and mailed to the Office of Development, 320 East North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA  15212.  To assure that your gift is accurately processed, please include the Donor Contribution Form.

Credit Card

To make a gift with your VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover Card, please contact the Office of Development at 412-359-5110, or complete the Donor Contribution Form and mail it to the address listed above.

Appreciated Securities

The Development Office accepts donations of appreciated securities such as stocks, bonds and mutual fund shares.  Outright gifts or pledge payments made in this form are often associated with Special Gifts.  Please contact the Development Office for assistance and gift transfer instruction for gifts of appreciated securities.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving refers to charitable gifts that are arranged as part of an individual’s financial or estate planning and are executed over an extended period of time or at some point in the future. Planned giving vehicles can provide tax benefits and income streams.  Contributors interested in this type of contribution should contact their tax and/or financial advisor.  Information can also be obtained by contacting the AGH Development Office.
