The Western Pennsylvania Hospital - Forbes Regional Campus is Redefining Community Medicine

Investing in the Future of Forbes

More than 28 years ago, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital - Forbes Regional Campus made a promise to residents of Pennsylvania’s eastern Allegheny and western Westmoreland counties. We promised they would no longer need to travel outside their community to receive the quality health care they required. We promised that we would provide superior care with a focus on family—close to home. It’s a promise we’ve taken seriously.

The Ed Dardanell Heart and Vascular Center –

Meeting Underserved Heart Care Needs

A recent study concluded that the West Penn - Forbes service area has a high incidence of heart disease and an underserved cardiovascular population.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, surpassing stroke, chronic lung disease, accidents and all forms of cancer.  For patients in the midst of a cardiac crisis, immediate intervention is critical to their survival and long-term prognosis.  Yet the hospital’s capacity to provide advanced cardiovascular services has been hindered because it lacks a comprehensive heart and surgical center.  The new Ed Dardanell Heart and Vascular Center will include new operating rooms, new cardiac catheterization facilities, and a new surgical intensive care unit that will enable Forbes to perform advanced procedures that save lives and allow us to provide better care.  Construction began in May 2006 after a most generous contribution from Mr. Ed Dardanell, an original member of the Forbes Health Foundation Board of Directors.

The New Women's and Infants Care Center

Family Centered Care all in One Area

New mothers are now able to deliver their babies, recover and receive postpartum care in one room without being transferred to various units.  This state-of-the-art model of care with updated systems, remodeled rooms and superior equipment.  Families appreciate the bedroom like nature of these large rooms with sofas and not having to move to various treatment areas.  The Center opened in May of 2007.

Bigger, Better, Faster – The Gerald McGinnis Emergency Department

The new Gerald McGinnis Emergency Department opened in early 2006, providing our patients access to the latest technology and equipment, as well as comfort, privacy, and efficiency in space twice the size of the previous department.

The Oncology Fund

The Oncology Fund was established so that donations could help others in the eastern suburbs receive quality and compassionate care if they become ill with cancer.  Donations help provide vital improvements that enhance patient comfort and efficiency of care for patients at Forbes. New medical equipment is needed as well as furnishings in the family lounge, and microwave ovens and refrigerators for all the patient rooms.
